#65. part two

July 30th, 2008

Today’s been one of those days where even though I’m not doing physical work, the mental capacity it takes has made me physically tired. Maybe that only happens to me, I have no idea. But I got in and was hit with about 4 different projects that all needed to be done IMMEDIATELY. Plus my meeting with a VIC (Very Important Client) that I had almost no time to prepare for.

So, anyway. Colors around here are not inspiring me lately. But i did find this online.

This is an ad. For some site that when I got there I was totally disappointed and didn’t even take the time to figure out what it was for. (hello, mentally tired) But I love the colors. I wish there was maybe a hint more of the pink/de-saturated coral.

#65.

July 29th, 2008

So number 65, which I drew today, is a week-long one, I feel. I’ll post one a day. Starting now.

But first, the idea: Find several color combinations you respond to in public. Document them using swatches, write where you find them.

I’m going to pull in a few that have been striking me in the past month, from the most public place in the world- the internet!

I really liked the bold colors. When I was looking for bedding for my new bedroom it almost made me want to re-paint my room. But I don’t think I could handle turquoise walls in my bedroom. A living room, though…

Polyvore is a site i found yesterday. I might use it to create my swatches if such a thing is possible. But, I saw this, and though I don’t wear gold, the coral and gold is really adorable.

Shirt @ Target

Finally, this shirt from Target. (I love Target) I took this with my phone. I love these colors, I love the pattern, Everything about this shirt was perfect except that it didn’t fit me. Woe.

number one-six

Sixteen was a random one. “Trace the path of the moon in relation to where you live”. I sort of went wtf when I saw it. But I attempted my own interpretation which I am pretty sure is the meaning of these 95 ideas. But it’s also not all that creative.

Trace the path of the moon in relation to where you live

Trace the path of the moon in relation to where you live

So that’s an aerial view (Left) of my house (shadows on the wrong side whoops). And a straight on view.

In other news, my doctor is a dingbat. He did a battery of tests to figure out why I feel like ass, and latched on to the first abnormal result as the reason. Never mind the fact that a) that abnormal result has been abnormal for at least 2 years, and this problem is two weeks old and b) the diagnosis doesn’t explain my problems.

I just made one of these and I have to share

This one was made from the words they gleaned from this blog. I really like the words inside of “things”: little & getting. Little Things. Getting Things.

 my life.

I also made one using Wikipedia’s entry on “Design”

Number 84

July 22nd, 2008

Yesterday I decided to draw early as I felt sick and wanted a drawing pick-me-up. But this wasn’t a drawing idea so I might draw again tomorrow and see how it turns out. Is it just me or did I say draw like 5 too many times?

Yesterday’s was 84. Make a list of the things you do to escape.

  1. Read anything. Books, magazines, the internet. Fiction, the news, random encyclopedia entries.
  2. Play with Gracie. Puppies make most things better. Except when they are making things worse.
  3. Listen to and find new music. Finding new music can be hard for me, so sometimes I need to escape from that, too.
  4. Look for inspiration. Usually found in design blogs, design/decor magazines, or the Food Network. I have a mental file of some things, and an actual notebook of things I’ve pulled from decor magazines.
  5. Plan pipedreams. Dream vacations totally mapped out on Expedia, business plans semi-drawn up in Word and semi-designed in Illustrator. I spend a lot of my escape time planning new things to escape from.
  6. Talk to my friends, if you can call it talking. Because it’s mostly online. As is my whole life. Which goes into
  7. Eating out with friends. Never alone. But I like to eat out. Lets me talk and taste things I can’t or won’t make at home. I wish there were more fun places to eat around Cincinnati but that is my life.

#40. Contents of your purse/bag

#40. Contents of your purse/bag

Originally uploaded by kat.folio

So, these are the daily contents of my pockets. I even usually pat myself down and make sure I have them all (minus #2), going by number of items versus what the items are.

1) My keys. Which, there are only two keys on there (car and work). The rest are those little plastic reward club tags, my Ursuline keychain, the key fob that lets me in the building, and a chunk from a skateboard that I bought in Manhattan.

2) Happy pills and birth control. I forget these regularly. End up with headaches and unhappy uterii.

3) My wallet. Far fatter than it needs to be and stuffed with receipts. I’m about to streamline this… maybe. Some day.

4) Cell phone. With a number 1 key that’s stopped working. So, soon, it will be replaced by a Crackberry, yay!

and, 5) my ipod. it plays music? also has all of House and Grey’s Anatomy on it. I only really play it in the car, as I’ve gotten all my music off it for work and on to the computer there.

Ironically, today I brought my purse. But it can’t even hold all of these items so my phone went in my pocket. I missed drawing after I’d done it, and I was tempted to draw another number. Maybe I’ll do two a week… Monday/Wednesday, maybe…

New Resolution

July 16th, 2008

Alright, so it’s July. But at work I’m already working on November/December things so I’m getting into the spirit of the end of the year, I guess. So, my new resolution is to use this thing, at least three times a week. Which, it was going to start off with a re-design, but I got lazy and wanted to start on the post writing first.

To help with the post writing, I’ve taken 95 ideas from Keri Smith, put them in an empty Pom glass (love those things), and I’ll be drawing and doing one once a week. I hope. Some of the things are one offs, and some I think I can stretch to a once a day for a week thing. I’ll be using Hump Day to introduce the idea. This week’s is number 40. “Draw all of the things in your purse/bag.”

Currently in my life, I don’t carry a purse. Or a bag.

But I do have pockets! So today is my intro, hopefully I’ll find the time to do the drawing today (I brought my sketchbook) and then maybe in two day’s time you’ll see it. I’m pondering drawing contour style with pen, so maybe to make more posts, I can try a new style. Being pockets, there’s not much to draw. Though I bet you’ll be surprised at what i can fit in my pocket. Like once, I fit a 1000 mL Nalgene bottle in there.

Figure Drawring

Mine, B&W

So like three years ago I got permission from enfuego in Canada to repurpose this photo she took of her friend Steph into an illustrator drawing.

Only, I got lazy. Originally it was just supposed to be fun, practice. but then, I’m taking this figure drawing class and we’re suppose to interpret a photo and I immediate thought of this one. So I opened Illustrator and went to town Sunday night and here it is so far!

I don’t know if it fits the assignment yet, but I’m liking it.

Ingredients: 98% Win

April 18th, 2008

I haven’t updated my blog in a LONG time. So that is the 2% of me that is not Win.  But that other 98% is 100% win…

Yea. You heard me.

Things that make me full of win:

  1. I won $250 worth of gas cards from the radio and got to be on the radio. And heard myself.
  2. I have a possible job with Atlas Rich Media, #2 for Web Advertising Solutions. Also owned by Microsoft, which means I am basically rolling in perks if I take it/officially get it
  3. I have a possible job in the Akron area with Digital Day Creative. The apt I would get is effing SUHWEET
  4. I have 3 other interviews in the upcoming weeks

Look at that win!
